Old-Fashioned Baked Cake Donuts with Vanilla Glaze

👨‍🍳 Instructions

1. Preheat & Prepare Pan

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a 12-cavity donut pan thoroughly or use nonstick spray.

2. Make the Batter

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, nutmeg, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix buttermilk, eggs, vanilla, and melted butter until smooth.
  3. Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and stir until just combined—do not overmix.

3. Fill & Bake

  1. Spoon or pipe the batter into the prepared donut pan, filling each cavity about ⅔ full.
  2. Bake for 8–10 minutes, or until donuts spring back when lightly touched and a toothpick comes out clean.
  3. Let donuts cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

4. Make the Glaze

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth and pourable.

5. Glaze & Finish

  1. Dip the top of each cooled donut into the glaze. Let excess drip off, then place back on the rack to set.
