Mom’s Soft “Ice Cream” Cookies – A Vintage Family Treasure

  1. Preheat oven:
Set oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare a cold (unheated) cookie sheet—no parchment or greasing needed.
  2. Cream butter and sugar:
In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add wet ingredients:
Beat in the egg, then add vanilla extract and milk. Mix until smooth. The milk is what helps keep these cookies soft, just like your mom remembered.
  4. Incorporate flour:
Stir in the flour until just combined. Do not overmix—the dough should be soft and light.
  5. Shape and bake:
Drop dough by rounded teaspoons onto the cold cookie sheet, spacing about 2 inches apart.
  6. Bake:
Bake for 8–10 minutes, or until the edges are just turning golden brown. The centers should remain pale and soft.
  7. Cool:
Allow cookies to cool for a few minutes on the tray before transferring to a rack.
