Classic Chocolate Cake with Ganache Recipe

  • 200 g dark chocolate (chopped or chips)
  • 200 ml heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon butter (optional, for shine)

Instructions

1️⃣ Make the Chocolate Cake

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a cake pan, or line the bottom with parchment paper for easier release.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs, warm milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until fully combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and gently tap to remove air bubbles.
  6. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack and cool completely before topping with ganache.

2️⃣ Prepare the Ganache

  1. In a small saucepan, heat the cream over medium heat until it’s just about to boil (do not let it boil).
  2. Remove from heat and add the chopped chocolate. Let it sit for 1 minute.
  3. Stir gently until smooth and glossy. Add butter for extra shine if desired.

Assembly and Serving

  1. Place the cooled cake on a serving plate or cake stand.
  2. Pour the ganache over the top and spread it gently with a spatula to cover the top and sides evenly.
  3. Let the ganache set at room temperature or chill slightly for a firmer finish.
