Preparation
Step 1: Preheat the Oven
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). This temperature will allow the cabbage steaks to cook through while developing a nice, golden-brown exterior.
Step 2: Slice the Cabbage
- Remove the outer leaves of the cabbage and slice it into 1-inch thick steaks. Make sure to keep the core intact in each slice, as this helps the cabbage hold together during roasting. Arrange the cabbage steaks in a single layer on a baking sheet. If necessary, use two baking sheets to ensure there’s enough space between the steaks for even cooking.
Step 3: Prepare the Seasoning Mixture
- In a small bowl, combine the olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir well to create a smooth seasoning mixture. The olive oil helps the spices adhere to the cabbage, while adding richness and flavor to the dish.
Step 4: Brush the Cabbage Steaks
- Brush both sides of each cabbage steak with the olive oil seasoning mixture. Make sure each steak is well-coated, ensuring even flavor and crispness when roasted.
Step 5: Bake the Cabbage Steaks
- Place the cabbage steaks in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cabbage is golden brown and tender. The edges of the cabbage should be crispy, while the interior remains soft and flavorful. If you prefer a crispier texture, you can bake the cabbage for a few extra minutes, but be sure to watch it closely to avoid burning.
