Serving & Storage Tips
This Red Velvet Cake is best served at room temperature. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. The cake can also be frozen for longer storage. Wrap individual slices tightly in plastic wrap and store in a freezer-safe container for up to 2 months. To thaw, simply place in the refrigerator overnight and bring to room temperature before serving.
Tips:
- If you prefer a stronger cocoa flavor, you can increase the amount of cocoa powder slightly, but be careful not to overpower the subtle red velvet flavor.
- For a more decadent touch, add a drizzle of chocolate ganache over the cream cheese frosting before serving.
- If you don’t have buttermilk, you can easily make a substitute by adding 1 tablespoon of white vinegar or lemon juice to 1 cup of milk. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes to curdle.
