Natural Flea & Tick Remedy for Pets and Home

Why Fleas Spread So Easily in the Home

When fleas infest your home, they can settle anywhere your dog or cat spends time. Carpets, rugs, pet beds, and upholstered furniture are especially vulnerable. Adult fleas jump off pets and lay eggs on these surfaces. Once the eggs hatch, larvae can become trapped deep in carpet fibers, making infestations persistent and difficult to eliminate.

Regular vacuuming and steam cleaning help reduce flea populations, but natural treatments can further support your cleaning efforts when used correctly and consistently.

Using Salt to Help Control Fleas in Carpets

One surprisingly effective household remedy for fleas is finely ground salt. Salt works as a dehydration agent, helping to dry out fleas and disrupt their life cycle when applied properly.

How to Use Salt for Flea Control

  1. Choose a highly refined household salt or sea salt with a very fine texture.
  2. Sprinkle a light, even layer over carpets, rugs, and other fabric-covered areas.
  3. Use a broom, brush, or carpet rake to gently work the salt into the fibers.
  4. Leave the salt in place for 12 to 48 hours.
  5. Vacuum thoroughly to remove salt, flea debris, and eggs.

Tip: Do not leave salt on carpets for extended periods in hot or humid conditions, as salt can attract moisture and may affect some flooring materials.
