My brother’s wedding planner called and said, « Your family canceled your invitation… but they want to keep the $50,000 deposit you paid. » I paused, then replied, « Cancel the whole wedding. » She gasped in surprise. « But sir, you’re not the groom… » I smiled. « No. But I own the venue, the caterer… »

Another long break.

Then, in a soft voice, she replied, « Yes, sir. »

I ended the call, remaining calm.

And I knew—without a shadow of a doubt—that someone would apologize before the day was out.
The repercussions began less than an hour later.

My mother called first, her voice sweet but tinged with steel. « My darling! There’s been a misunderstanding… »

« No, » I replied calmly.

She let out an exaggerated sigh. « Why do such a cruel thing? It’s your brother’s wedding! »

« That was the case, » I corrected.

His tone instantly hardened. « You’re destroying his life. »

“No,” I replied evenly. “I’m cancelling an event I paid for after being excluded from it. It’s not cruelty, it’s a consequence.”

Then Logan called.

He completely ignored the basic pleasantries.

« What have you done now? » he barked. « The venue says everything is cancelled. The guests are already booking their flights! »

I leaned back in my chair. « Weird, » I said. « I thought I wasn’t invited. »

Silence, then a sudden breath.

« You’re petty, » he retorted sharply.
