- Preheat & Melt Butter: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the butter directly into a baking dish and set it in the oven just long enough for the butter to melt completely. Carefully remove the pan once melted.
- Mix the Batter: In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Pour in the milk and stir until the batter is smooth and lump-free.
- Assemble: Pour the batter evenly over the melted butter in the baking dish. Do not stir — the butter should remain underneath the batter.
- Add the Fruit: Spoon the sweetened fruit evenly over the batter, distributing it gently across the surface. Again, do not stir.
Baking & Serving
- Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 1 hour. As it bakes, the batter will rise up around the fruit, absorbing its juices and forming a golden, cobbler-style topping.
- Check for Doneness: The cobbler is ready when the top is golden brown and set, with bubbling fruit visible around the edges.
- Cool Slightly: Remove from the oven and let rest for 10–15 minutes before serving. This allows the juices to thicken slightly.
