The commotion attracted everyone. Faith and Eddie rushed into the house. Precious hid behind Daniel, in tears. Anita was screaming, calling her every name under the sun.
Then Eddie spoke calmly:
« Daniel, how could you? You’ve disappointed me. »
Anita turned around, laughing contemptuously:
« And who are you to talk? Just a gatekeeper. »
Precious hissed,
« Go away with your poverty, you and your wife, when rich people are talking. »
Eddie smiled quietly and shook his head.
« Really? Interesting. »
He turned to Faith.
« Let’s go, my love. »
But Faith grabbed his arm.
« Wait… what are you doing? »
Eddie looked at everyone.
« Before I leave, I should probably tell you something. I own this house. »
They all burst out laughing. Anita clutched her stomach.
« You, the owner? You must be dreaming! »
Daniel, for his part, remained silent.
Eddie continued calmly:
« Yes, I’m the owner of this house, this housing development, and several businesses. Eddie Clifford Oil and Gas Limited. Does that ring a bell? »
The laughter stopped abruptly. Silence fell.
Anita turned to Daniel.
« Why aren’t you saying anything? »
Daniel swallowed hard.
« He’s… he’s my boss. »
They froze.
Eddie continued, his voice calm:
« I switched roles with Daniel. I wanted to find a woman who would love me for me, not for my money. »
After my mother died, my father married a cruel woman who took everything from him and broke him. He died heartbroken. Since then, I’ve worked hard to build my life, but I wanted to be sure I would never marry a woman like her.
He looked at Faith, his eyes moist.
« And now I know. You proved to me that kindness still exists. You loved me when I had nothing. »
Faith remained motionless, trembling.
« Is that true? »
He nodded.
« Yes, my love. And I’m sorry for all the pain you’ve been through. It wasn’t to hurt you, but to see your heart. »
Weeks passed. Anita and Precious told their mother everything, but she refused to believe them… until the day a white Mercedes-Benz drove into their yard.
Faith stepped down, wearing a magnificent dress. Eddie followed her, elegant in his suit.
Her stepmother gasped.
« Faith… »
Eddie smiled politely, handed him an envelope, and said,
« Here is 1 million naira for your daughter’s dowry. Thank you for giving me a good wife. »
The woman’s lips began to tremble.
« Faith, my child, forgive me, I beg you… »
Faith looked at her calmly.
« I don’t hate you. But I’ve moved on. I have nothing against you. But I have nothing with you anymore. »
Eddie took her hand and they went back to the car.
When Faith and Eddie got into their white Mercedes, everyone stared at them in silence. The same house where she had been treated like a servant now echoed with shame and admiration.
Precious stood by the gate, her eyes filled with tears. She whispered,
« That… that could have been me. »
But it was too late. What she had despised was now what she desired most.
Life knows how to humble the proud and raise up those who have been broken.
Faith’s story reminds us that no matter how hard they try to crush you, when your time comes, not even their hatred can stop your rise.
Never despise humble beginnings. Never judge someone by what they have today. Sometimes, those who seem poor are simply going through a difficult time. And when the hardship ends, the truth surprises everyone.

Sometimes in life, the people who hurt you only push you towards the place where you will be honored.
Faith’s story reminds us that no matter how life treats you today, your worth doesn’t change. It’s just waiting to be revealed.
Never despise someone because of their circumstances. The person you ridicule today may be the one God has chosen to change your story tomorrow.
And if you go through pain like Faith did, hold on, because one day the same mouths that mocked you will tell your story.
Tell me in the comments: do you think it’s still possible to find true love in a world full of lies and pretense? I’d love to read your thoughts.
