Grandma’s Easy Chocolate Pie with Homemade Pie Crust

Grandma’s Chocolate Pie Filling

Ingredients

  • ½ cup cocoa powder
  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • 3 egg yolks, beaten
  • 1½ cups sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

  1. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a saucepan, mix together the cocoa powder, cornstarch, sugar, and salt until evenly blended.
  2. Add Egg Yolks: Stir in the beaten egg yolks, mixing well to form a smooth paste.
  3. Add Milk Gradually: Slowly pour in the milk while stirring constantly to prevent lumps from forming.
  4. Cook the Filling: Place the saucepan over medium-high heat and cook, stirring continuously. As the mixture heats, it will gradually thicken. Continue cooking until smooth, glossy, and pudding-thick.
  5. Finish with Vanilla: Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
  6. Fill the Crust: Pour the hot chocolate filling into the pre-baked pie shell, smoothing the top.
  7. Chill: Place the pie in the refrigerator and chill until fully set, at least a few hours.
