Easy Hamburger Rice Casserole (Comfort Food Classic)

Instructions

Prepare the oven and beef

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish to prevent sticking.

In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef for 8–10 minutes, breaking it up as it browns, until no longer pink. Drain off any excess fat to keep the casserole from becoming greasy.

Assemble the casserole

Spread the cooked beef evenly across the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle the uncooked rice evenly over the beef, distributing it so it cooks uniformly.

Pour the French onion soup and beef consommé over the beef and rice. Gently stir just enough to combine, ensuring all the rice is submerged in liquid so it cooks properly.

Arrange the butter pats evenly across the top. As the casserole bakes, the butter will melt and help create a rich, golden finish.

Bake covered

Cover the dish tightly with foil and bake for 30 minutes. This covered stage allows the rice to absorb the liquid and soften without drying out.

Bake uncovered

Remove the foil and return the casserole to the oven for an additional 30 minutes. During this time, the top will become lightly golden and slightly crisp, while the rice finishes cooking.
