- 2 cups diced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon water
- ¼ cup caramel sauce
Instructions
Prepare the Apple Filling
- Cook the Apples: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the diced apples, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Stir well to coat the apples evenly.
- Soften and Caramelize: Cook the mixture for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are tender and lightly caramelized. The mixture should be glossy and fragrant.
- Thicken: Stir in the vanilla extract followed by the cornstarch slurry. Continue cooking for 1–2 minutes until the filling thickens and coats the apples. Remove from heat and allow it to cool slightly so it does not melt the pastry.
