Above 8,000 meters, climbers enter the death zone, where the air is so thin that even with oxygen tanks, life becomes nearly impossible. It is here that most deaths on the mountain occur. Difficult weather conditions often force climbers to abandon their ascents. This region has also been the scene of personal tragedies, such as the 2015 earthquake that claimed 18 lives on the mountain.
The Mysterious Sounds of Everest
Many climbers claim to have heard strange and deafening sounds during nights spent in the mountains. These sounds, often described as coming from a « living and angry » mountain, are caused by the rapid melting of glaciers due to climate change. As the sun sets, glaciers crack and large ice sheets break off, creating a terrifying and intense noise, an ominous reminder of the effects of global warming.
Yeti Tracks and Other Mysterious Creatures
In 1951, mountaineer Eric Shipton discovered mysterious footprints on the slopes of Mount Everest, indicating the existence of the legendary Yeti. Although DNA analysis was conducted, the results did not allow for definitive conclusions about the origin of these fingerprints. The Yeti mystery lives on, fueling myths and legends in the Himalayan region.
