The millionaire’s three daughters were blind from birth… until the day an old beggar woman changed everything.
Ricardo Mendoza’s triplets had been blind since birth—or so he
‘d always believed—until the day the old woman on the sidewalk changed their lives forever. He couldn’t understand how everything had changed so suddenly. One minute, his three four-year-old daughters had been under the care of their nanny in downtown Mexico City. The next, they were running straight toward a stranger sitting on the sidewalk.
The three little girls—Sofía Guadalupe, Valentina Isabel, and Camila Fernanda—officially diagnosed as blind since birth, crossed the crowded square in a perfectly straight line, avoiding passersby and obstacles as if they could see perfectly. Their identical red dresses billowed in the wind as they walked, with unexpected determination, toward the old woman with gray hair who opened her arms to welcome them.
« Girls, come back here right now! » shouted Marisol, the head housekeeper, her voice tight with panic as she realized she had lost control of the situation.
Ricardo, who was walking a few steps behind while checking his phone, looked up… and felt his heart stop. His daughters, who normally could barely move on their own without help, were running with a coordination he had never seen before.
“Abuelita! Abuelita ! The
three shouted in chorus.
This word froze Ricardo on the spot.
The woman sitting on the sidewalk wore worn clothes, an old shawl draped over her shoulders. Grey strands of hair protruded from a knitted cap, and her trembling hands reached out towards the children with a painful tenderness.
