Soft Christmas Peppermints

Ingredients

These soft Christmas peppermints have a melt-in-the-mouth texture reminiscent of old-fashioned holiday candies. A warm sugar mixture is cooked to soft-ball stage, then beaten until creamy and formed into delicate peppermint drops dusted with powdered sugar.

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 tsp peppermint extract
  • 3 drops red food coloring
  • 1/4 tsp cream of tartar
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

The combination of sugar, corn syrup, and cream of tartar helps prevent crystallization, ensuring a smooth, velvety candy texture once beaten. The peppermint extract and touch of red coloring give each piece classic holiday character.
